“Sampaguita” is inspired by the national flower of the Philippines. She is more than her delicate and sweet appearance. In the depths of her stare exists the complex history and struggles of her people. Her heart burns a fire so deep, its embers have fueled the fight within her for centuries. Her deep black hair, though often mistaken for a crown, is her shield and source of power. A seemingly supernatural power that is in fact the collective knowledge and strength of her ancestors passed down to ensure survival. Filipinas are a nation of strong women. This is my dedication to them.
