What is a giclée print?

giclée (Fine Art Print)

Giclée (also called “fine art print”) is a high-quality reproduction of artwork or photography, using inkjet printing technology. It uses archival-grade, pigment-based inks and fine art paper or canvas, resulting in vibrant colors, sharp details, and a long-lasting finish. Giclée prints are often used for limited edition runs or to replicate original works, offering a level of fidelity and durability that makes them highly sought after by artists and collectors.

High Quality Fine Art Paper

Giclées use high-quality fine art paper that is specifically designed for producing museum-grade prints with exceptional color accuracy, detail, and longevity. They are acid-free and archival, ensuring that prints maintain their integrity and color over time without yellowing or deteriorating. They are typically made from 100% cotton or alpha-cellulose. It allows for optimal ink absorption, resulting in vivid, sharp prints with a high level of detail, making them ideal for fine art, photography, and limited edition works.

Pigment-based Archival Inks

Giclée use high-quality, pigment-based inks that are designed for archival longevity. These inks are water-resistant and lightfast, meaning they resist fading over time when exposed to light. The pigments in the ink are finely ground and provide a wide color gamut, resulting in rich, vibrant prints with fine detail. Giclée inks are typically used in conjunction with high-end printers to produce museum-quality reproductions of artwork and photographs.
