YHOS Coloring Book One Year Release Anniversary

Time has really flown by! And by that, I don’t just mean the craziness that is 2020. This past September marked the one year anniversary of the release of “Young Heart, Old Soul” Coloring Book for Adults!

This coloring book is so very special to me. Many of us might remember growing up with coloring books. I’m no different. I especially remember flipping through the Lisa Frank coloring books in Woolworth and Walgreens thinking to myself how amazing it would be to create my own one day. One that reflected my roots, culture, hip hop, and the things I loved in general. That day finally came when I was going through my bucket list and saw it there, unchecked. I thought to myself, why the hell not? I finally decided to make the time and just do it. So in between work, home life, and art commissions, I researched, planned it out, and squeezed in illustrations anytime I could. And I mean anytime I could! When I traveled, I drew. When I was up late I drew. Morning and night.

A year or so after that decision, I found myself ordering my first proof. I was crazy nervous! I ended up editing it a few more times, ordered another proof, and then finally ordering my first batch. When I got my ISBN it felt so official! I decided to do pre-orders to gauge interest. There were a few hiccups with delivery, but it all worked out in the end. I was promoting it like crazy but even then I knew I could have done more.

It can now be found in BarnesandNoble.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, many online bookstore markets, and even the San Francisco Public Library! And as exciting as it was to discover where it was being made available, I was more excited whenever any of my family, friends, and even strangers would order directly on my website or through my social media accounts. And even better than the initial order was the feedback. I loved learning that it was being used for family activities, that the parents who ordered them also ordered some for their kids, that many were being used for self-care days, and that some were being given as gifts to a loved one. It is truly more than I could hope for.

So to celebrate the one year release, I really wanted to do something special. I wanted to thank those who pre-ordered when it first dropped and to thank those who always continued to show love for my work so I postponed the celebration until I had something better prepared. What I came up with are a few things that will be announced as the weeks go by. One of them will be a giveaway that I’ve never done before, another will be a very limited product drop, and of course, a coloring book sale which is already happening right now. I might have a few more surprises, but I’ll have to wait to tell you. Until then, Happy October!! Hope everyone is taking care of themselves the best they can.

Love you all!

xoxo
